PrompTutor nudges students toward help-seeking prompts instead of answer-seeking ones — and supports research on how students use AI chatbots.
Works on your favorite AI platforms
PrompTutor combines privacy-preserving research tools with real-time guidance that helps students develop better prompting habits.
Detects answer-seeking prompts (e.g., "solve this for me") and suggests rephrased, help-seeking alternatives before you send.
Your email is SHA-256 hashed client-side and never sent to our servers. All research data is keyed to an irreversible anonymous ID.
Toggle data sharing on or off per conversation. Data collection is strictly opt-in — nothing is sent without your explicit action.
View all data you've contributed at any time from the popup. Delete everything with one click — permanently and immediately.
Works across 10+ AI chat platforms including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and more — no extra setup required for each.
Contributes anonymized conversation data to CMU research on student–AI interaction patterns and learning outcomes.
No configuration required. Just install, sign in, and start using AI as you normally would.
Add PrompTutor to Chrome from the Web Store. It activates automatically on supported AI platforms.
Authenticate via Google OAuth. Your email is anonymized on-device before any data is associated with you.

Use AI as usual. When guidance is on, the extension will flag answer-seeking prompts and suggest better alternatives.
PrompTutor follows the DELICATE ethical framework for learning analytics. Your data is yours — always.
SHA-256 hashing happens in your browser. Your real email never leaves your device.
Toggle sharing on or off at any time from the popup or the floating indicator on any AI page.
Delete all your data from our servers instantly with one click in the extension popup.
The extension only activates on the listed AI platforms — it reads nothing from any other website.
